Falling For A Star
by Jodie Homer

Three years ago when I first decided to write a Christmas book I wanted to set it in New York. Who wouldn’t want to read a book about one of the biggest cities in the world? I wanted to feature a man called Isaac who lived in America and I wanted him to be a womaniser. I tried to include Isaac in many first drafts but they never came to anything. I tried to write the book set in New York with the main character visiting for Christmas but that didn’t happen both so then I came up with the idea of the talent show and a reason to bring Isaac to the UK and that’s where it all fit into place. I knew I wanted New York involved and New York does feature at the end.
Birchlea Heath is actually where I live. I changed the name but everything in the village is a real place including the coffee shop, school and post office and it’ actually really nice to write about my village because it is really special and it’s so much easier than imagining a brand new place. Not all of the Christmas festivities are real though. We don’t have a Christmas parade come through our village and the idea of that came from Jingle all the Way the Arnold Schwarzenegger Christmas film where they have a parade through in the city with the floats and Arnold is Turbo Man. It’s one of my favourite Christmas films and I thought what if there was a parade with floats that stopped regularly for people to buy little Christmas gifts and a festive drink and mince pie. The Christmas light switch on are real and round where I live we have Santa come down our road on top of a car on a sleigh for charity and it’s one of my favourite things ever.
Have a lovely Christmas everyone thank you for reading my books.
Thank you so much for telling us about the inspiration for your new book, Jodie. Falling For A Star will certainly make a lovely Christmas read. And what a gorgeous Christmassy cover it has!
